Mark Your Calendar: April WBN Luncheon

Please join us on Thursday, April 18th for the Women’s Business Network April luncheon. This will be a special spring meeting where we will learn more about Turning Point, a program based at UVU that helps women who are in transition create opportunities for themselves. As an added bonus, we’ll have fashion experts there to share tips and ideas, and we’ll also collect gently used women’s professional clothing to be donated to Turning Point. Take advantage of spring cleaning and collect clothing from others in your organization or network. Turning Point provides the clothing to women who may be re-entering the work force or attempting to upgrade career-wise so that they can dress appropriately for interviews and for the work place. The event will be held at the SCERA; we’ll begin promptly at 11:30, and should finish around 1:00 p.m. (although you’re certainly welcome to remain afterward if the fun is still going on). Please RSVP by Monday, April 15th so that we can ensure an accurate count for the meal. Register by clicking on the link below:

The Women’s Business Network had a wonderful luncheon and speaker at the Holiday Inn Express on February 21, 2013.  Angie Anderson Morris and Ronald Hawkins of Hawkins Cloward & Simister, LC, Certified Public Accountants gave a very informational presentation on “Taxes after the American Taxpayer Relief and Affordable Care Acts”.  Angie discussed some of the new changes in the tax law and how that will affect exemptions, tax brackets, tax on capital gains, dividends, estate and gift taxes.  She also discussed the increase in payroll tax and business tax changes.  Ron discussed how the Affordable Care Act would affect the taxes businesses and individuals will be required to pay.  Several examples were given to help women understand the implications of the new taxes and to understand who would

Piebe affected by the new laws.  A delicious taco salad bar with pie for dessert was served by Landmark Catering.  Also thanks to our 2013 Angel Sponsor, The Barbara Barrington Jones Family Foundation for their ongoing support of the Women’s Business Network and scholarship fund.

January Luncheon Follow Up

CIMG2851The Women’s Business Network Luncheon was well attended on January 17, 2013 as Michelle McCullough shared “5 Tips To Connecting With and Closing Sponsors”.  The five steps were: (1) Seek First To Understand – it is important to understand your client and their needs. (2) One Size Does Not Fit All – be flexible and adaptable to what a sponsor wants to contribute (3) Get Your Stuff Together – Have brochures, tool kits, website, packages and other materials ready to share with a potential sponsor.  It makes your project seem more legitimate. (4) The Sale Isn’t Done When They Pay The Bill – Stay in contact with sponsors and continue to network. (5) Keep Up – stay up to date with new technologies and ways of sponsoring.

Michelle shared some wonderful tools that are helpful in establishing sponsorships.
