YEA – Here’s how you can help

You are invited to help the Young Entrepreneur students of Utah Valley as they start their own businesses. Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce began the inaugural year of YEA! for the 2013-2014 school year.

YEA! focuses on a broad definition of entrepreneurship – the transformation of an idea into an enterprise that creates value. YEA! teaches middle and high school students not only the importance and purpose of social and business entrepreneurship, but also the process by which one establishes a business enterprise or social movement.

YEA! offers students the opportunity to learn these principles through a yearlong project-based, hands-on entrepreneurial education. Students are taught to write business plans, prepare and pitch their ideas to investors, obtain financial backing, register their businesses and social organizations, develop marketing plans and materials, prepare for trade shows, and sell their products and services.

We are currently looking for graphic designers and web developers who can help these students prepare for the launch of their businesses. We have 13 student businesses. Please let us know of any graphic designers or web developers that we can contact. Each web developer/graphic designer will have the opportunity to work with two businesses as they develop materials to launch their business.

YEA! Graphic Designers/web developers commit to one classroom visit; the remainder of the work is done via email or phone.  Graphic Designers/web developers act as volunteers, however, if a student group is appropriately funded at the Investor Panel Event,  designers will be compensated $75 per group.  Graphic Designers create the following for each of their business groups:

  • Brochure
  • Business cards
  • Web template
  • Logo
  • Letterhead

The dates for the deliverables are as follows:

January 23, 2014          In-Class meeting at UCAS on the UVU campus

February 6, 2014          Preliminary designs are due to the students

February 13, 2014        Final student edits are due to the designer

February 20, 2014         Final designs and disks are due to the students

YEA! Web developers commit to an initial in-class consultation on Thursday, January 30.  Web Developers will talk with the business groups to determine what sort of web site makes sense, and to help the students think through their web requirements.

Prior to this meeting, students will complete a worksheet that will outline specific requests and requirements for their website.  Professional graphic designers will be creating a “look” for the students’ ventures that include a logo, brochures, web templates, etc.  The web template will be sent to be incorporated into the website.

The dates for the deliverables are as follows:

January 30, 2014          In-Class meeting at UCAS
February 13, 2014        Preliminary web designs are due to students
February 20, 2014        Final student edits are due to the web developers
March 6, 2014             Final web sites “go live”

We are in need of six graphic designers and six web developers. If you know of anyone that might be willing to assist us, please call the Chamber.
