First Annual Utah Valley Women’s Business Conference a Success

Presented by the Women’s Business Network (WBN), the first annual Utah Valley Women’s Business Conference was held on October 14th on the campus of Utah Valley University (UVU).  While Utah Valley is the host of many women’s events, the WBN Board of Directors felt there was an opportunity to develop a conference which focused specifically on business skills.

Over six months, the WBN and the key Conference sponsors (The Daily Herald, Utah Valley University Woodbury School of Business, The Barbara Barrington-Jones Family FoundationHawkins Cloward and Simister, and Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce) strategized to create a relevant curriculum which would fulfill the WBN’s mission to empower professional women by promoting business connections, encouraging diverse personal and professional networks, and providing development opportunities.  The resulting conference included 15 speakers and three specialty tracks – Business Basics, Enterprising Entrepreneurs, and Practiced Professionals.  Over 125 attendees participated in a culminating luncheon keynote address with Chris Redgrave, Senior VP of Zion’s Bank and host of KSL’s Speaking on Business.  Each attendee also received a gift bag and the 2011 Utah Valley Women’s Business Conference Resource Guide.

Jessica Egbert, the 2012 Chairwoman of the Women’s Business Network, commented regarding the Conference, “This was an amazing experience both to plan and execute.  I feel overwhelmed with the volunteer support  – including the WBN Board, speakers, and sponsors – who passionately focused on providing a meaningful, thoughtful event for the women in our community.   We look forward to growing the event next year!”

Besides the key sponsors listed previously, additional sponsors to the gift bags and speaker gifts included Remedez, Let’s Logo, Edible Arrangements, Utah Kernels, Red Lobster, Tahitian Noni, and The Chocolate.

At the Conference, the WBN announced proceeds would be redirected to a new WBN Small Business Development Grant program.  The WBN is presently reviewing grant guidelines and will shortly post information to this website regarding the guidelines, application process, and awarding of the grant funds.
