At the February Women’s Business Network luncheon, we were pleased to welcome six new members! We’d like to thank Petersen Medical and Utah Valley Expos for sponsoring the luncheon, held at The Old Spaghetti Factory. Our guest speaker was Emily Cushing of Give Away Today. Give Away Today is a blog with daily giveaways of items donated by companies in exchange for the positive publicity and traffic driven to their own websites. Emily said she never imagined her website would grow the way it has. She recommended looking for those popular or trendy ideas and then discussing them with someone who will be truthful and realistic with their feedback. Because she works with a lot of smaller companies trying to grow their business, she was able to offer some advice on selling online. Make sure your website is easy to navigate and has an appealing look. Use professional photos of your products. Emily has promoted her site in several ways including allowing people to subscribe to or follow the site, writing monthly newsletters, adding the website to her email signature on all email, and creating an html “button” that can be displayed on other websites and blogs for cross marketing. To get past the discouraging times when business or website traffic drops, look for things to do differently and work on making connections that can help your business. Marketing and networking should be specific to your business. Our next meeting will be a Nothing but Networking meeting on March 11.
